GIANPIERO & LORENA

UBI MAIOR MINOR CESSAT

Short Course Description

Gianpiero & Lorena will focus on movement technique and how to skilfully time and coordinate individual and couple motion not just to keep the rhythm, but to interpret and  characterize  every song with mood, connection and individual style. Gianpiero, Lorena and Murat have prepared a special joint class to fuse the musicality concepts with all the body and couple movements necessary to fully and passionately express the music (Masterclass 4).

About the Teacher

Gianpiero started learning tango at an early age and during his adolescence, he travelled extensively to Argentina and Europe to refine his dancing skills and learn “from every teacher we could find on our path!”. Since he made tango his career, he has been collaborating and performing with a plethora of world-renown dancers and partners, including Maria Filali with whom he travelled the world and came to Australia. His passion for tango and teaching the discipline drives him to continuously refine his skills. As he would describe it, this is a “process of continuous improvement where the student will learn from the teacher and vice-versa”.

His biggest “pride” is the current partnership with Lorena Tarantino (started in 2018), in which he finds all the ingredients to best showcase their joint experience and passion for tango, the dance and the teaching.

Delivery

Gianpiero and Lorena will be delivering Masterclass 3 together via Zoom and then will join Murat for a multimedia experience during Masterclass 4.

RICHARD FRISART

DJ EXTRAVAGANZA

Short Course Description

In this Masterclass, under the title of “At the milonga – a tango DJ’s perspective” Richard (tango DJ and organizer) will explain the role of the DJ and the written and unwritten ‘rules’ of DJ’ing at various types of milongas. What goes on in the DJ’s head? Which musical choices are there to be made?
This will help you gain a better understanding of the music that’s being played at the milonga, and what type of music you can expect when. So, you can enjoy the music more – or even know when to look for that one partner to dance the next tanda with…

About the Teacher

Richard Frisart is a tango DJ and organizer, living in Haarlem, The Netherlands. He discovered tango in the 1980s when Astor Piazzolla gave his concerts in Holland and rose to fame. A tango dancer since 2010, he started his career as a tango DJ in 2015, at first at the local milongas in Haarlem, but soon at milongas and festivals all around The Netherlands, like the Holland Tango Festival in Rotterdam. He has also DJ’ed in Belgium, Denmark, Austria, France, and at various milongas in Buenos Aires. His style is energetic and varied, with a firm base in the golden decades. His tandas are well thought out. Consistent, but never boring. A bit edgy on purpose sometimes. His main goal as a DJ: get the dancers on the floor and make them happy. Next to DJ’ing at the milongas, Richard has a YouTube channel as well (Tango Music Tutorials), sharing his knowledge and love for tango music.

MASTERCLASS 6 - Musica Maestro

Teacher: Richard Frisart

Date: 31/10/2021

Time: 16:00 - 18:00

Location: C'est Bon Restaurant

Duration: 2h

Main Topics

Richard will walk us through not only what it means to create the music for a milonga but also what you should expect as a dancer from the DJ and the structure of tandas. What makes a milonga successful by creating the right athmosphere? What is the role of the DJ in contemporary milongas and what do the dancers add to the work of the DJ? How do different cultures and communities interpret the structure of a milonga? The ‘Big 4’ orchestras & why is that important? When can you expect the DJ to play Pugliese?

What makes a (good) tanda? This is a great opportunity to get perspective of a seasoned tango DJ and share his cultural experience from around the world.

Delivery

Richard is expert in delivering classes online and will prepare an interactive and well balanced course for an audience of dancers, tango listeners and connoisseurs and clearly tango DJs.

Who should take this class?

Anyone interested in learning more about tango music and the way it is played in contemporary social dance events around the world. Also any dancer that wants to improve their understanding of what goes on behind the mixing console to better "plan" his/her milonga.

OVER THE INTERNET

Musicality Masterclass Logo Moonlight Tango

We use the latest technologies to offer a full experience that trascends COVID barriers

OverInternet

Online Masterclass

Is this an Online Course?

Not at all! The teachers will be streaming live from Europe and Argentina just for us, the audience in the beautiful School of Music auditorium (Nickson Room) at the University of Queensland and at our beloved C'est Bon. You will not be able to see any of these courses on the computer or on YouTube. These Masterclasses have been tailored for us and are part of an entire curriculum worth exploring as a whole.

How do we know it will work?

We have chosen your teachers not only because they are great at teaching tango and musicality but also because they are experienced at delivering their classes using a range of media and technologies.
We have also run several trials to test the delivery of the courses via Zoom and YouTube. We will be using the latest technology on both ends, with high resolution digital cameras, several microphones, large projector screens and hi-fi sound system. We will also have several back ups to ensure it all works smoothly.

Will the Audience be able to interact with the Teachers?

Absolutely! Each teacher will have slightly different approach to interacting with you, and it will also depend on the topic (certain Masterclasses are more targeted to audience interaction), but each one of them will answer your questions, ask you questions, potentially give you exercises to do during the masterclass and check that you are doing it correctly.

Will the audience be dancing?

Some of the masterclasses call for dancing exercises and the locations we have chosen both have a dancing space (wooden floors).

Do I need a partner?

There is partner work and exercises involved (especially in Masterclass 1 to 4), it will be easier if you secure a partner but it is NOT needed. Send us a message if you are looking ;-) and we will help as we can.

Where can I find some examples of what the Teachers are like?

All over the world! If you want a sense of what they can do online check some of the videos (left). Remember the Moonlight Tango Masterclass Series has been developed as a coherent set of workshops to cover a wide but specifically tailored curriculum on Musicality from the perspective of dancers, teachers, DJ and musicians (i.e. it's not just a YouTube video). More importantly, you will be able to interact with the Teachers and carry on live exercises with their supervision.
