Workshops

All workshops will be held in the large dance studio at Elements Collective Venue (ECV) on 17 McLachlan St, Fortitude Valley QLD 4006. The studio is equipped with mirrors, air-conditioning and professional speakers system, it has access to water and bathrooms. The workshops will be capped to 50 people (25 couples) and need to be booked in pairs (leader/follower) to guarantee everyone can have space to learn. Please arrive at least 15 min in advance to all workshops. Tickets to workshops will NOT be sold at the door.

Thursday 17 September (4:00pm - 8:00pm)


  •  Technique and Fundamentals:Technique:The foundation and roots of tango in order to have a dance with quality, elegance and solidity, understanding the why and wherefore of each movement

  •   Turns:Simple turns, complex turns, where the impulse to turn comes from, balance and comfort in the embrace. The importance of each role in the turn


Friday 17 September (10:00am - 2:00pm)


  • Sacadas and Boleos :Precision and quality. How to manage the energy I apply in these movements

  • NATURALNESS, FLUDITY and QUALITY IN DANCE:  How and when be soft, or strong in the embrace. How to manage energy. Different examples for both roles.  This is a topic where the focus is more on how we do things, and examples of different movements can be used.

Friday 18 September (2:30pm - 4:30pm)


  • Vals -*Flow, rhythm and circularity*   We'll work on understanding the 3/4 rhythm and how it differs from Tango and Milonga and how we can find flow and suspension between steps without rushing or losing balance.We will look at circular movements to match the music while exploring how to maintain clarity, connection and musical phrasing at higher energy levels

Saturday 19 September (2:30pm - 4:30pm)


  • Tango Musicality -*Dancing what you hear*  This class is about deepening your Relationship with Tango music and learning how to let it guide your movements in the dance. Rather than focusing on steps, we'll explore how rhythm, melody, phrasing and dynamics shape the way Tango feels and how you can express that in your dance.

Tuesday 15 September (6:00pm - 10:00pm)


  • In essence "Lead and follow in walking" - Involves clear communication, trust, and responsiveness between partners to achieve coordinated and graceful movement sequences.

  • Technique ocho and pivot - Involves tracing a figure-eight pattern on the floor with your feet. It consists of a series of pivots and steps in forward or backward directions.


Wednesday 16 September (6:00pm - 10:00pm)


  • Rebound - Understanding the concepts of Rebound to enhance your dance movements with controlled possibilities and dynamic.

  • Change of Direction - Understanding and executing changing direction enhances fluidity, creativity, and spatial awareness.

  • “El abrazo” - from subtle to expressive: Elasticity, possibilities, tension and dynamics in the embrace.

  • Colgadas for the social dance floor - exploring and sharing the axis as a couple.


Sunday 20 September (10:00am - 2:00pm)


  • The expression of the legs in the dance - “Planeos y calesitas” combinations and adornments expressing the melody

  • Milonga! : Different dynamics for more flavour
