Romantica Milonguera

Romantica

Australia

Tango Music and Art

Romantica Australia has been a great success with Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth tango communities loving the great music of the famous Orquesta Romantica Milonguera (ORM) playing live and exclusively from Buenos Aires (Argentina).

Thanks to all those who came and supported this event across Australia. Given the great success of this live-streaming event, we will be working closely with ORM to organise a live tour of Australia in the months to come! Stay tuned and make sure you send us your feed-back and photos/videos you took during the event for everyone to enjoy.

Above a gallery of all the photos from the three venues. A special thank to all the organisers and to David Kelly who took photos of the Brisbane milonga.

Orquesta Romantica

milonguera

quien somos?

From the idea of recreating the great romantic repertoire of tango as well as the simbology of the genre’s golden era in Argentina, sprouts the Orquesta Romántica Milonguera, with a clear esthetic proposal, characterized, among other things, by a balance between traditionally regarded as masculine and feminine elements. The idea was to make tango music as part of a bigger picture, which could play with stereotypes while thus transcending them. The result was something current and fresh, which produced that after the debut in March 2016, the orchestra became quickly integrated into the porteño tango circuit, becoming a regular, well-known presence at milongas such as La Viruta, Salón Canning, Villa Malcolm, etc. The performances were soon required in Gran Buenos Aires and several other places within Argentina.

At the end of 2016 the orchestra’s first album was recorded and released, receiving a warm welcome from the general public. The filming of a series of videoclips, which would have a great impact on the tango scene at both national and international levels, began immediately afterwards.

Already in 2017, joint together under the label “Músicos Milongueros” together with Tango Bardo, Orquesta Tanturi and Orquesta Villa Crespo, the Romántica introduced the disco tanda, the album “Dúos” being the first exemplar of the new format. It included the tangos “Invierno” and “Mi serenata”, of which two videos were filmed at the palace of Customs of Buenos Aires. From the subsequent recording of the disco tanda “Boleros” sprouted the videoclips of innovative versions of the classics “Perfidia” and “Bésame mucho”, which counted with the participation of dancers Julio Balmaceda and Virginia Vasconi.

In February 2018 the ORM performed for the first time outside Argentina, with great success and a sold out concert at the Sala Zitarrosa in Montevideo. Apart from carrying on with shows in Buenos Aires and its surroundings, the orchestra visited the cities of Rosario and Salto, and in March of that same year, it participated, together with the Orquesta Tanturi, of the Encuentro de Tango del Interior (ETI) in Mar del Plata, which congregated over 1,500 milongueros from all over the country and Uruguay.

Soon after, the orchestra went on its first tour around Europe and Asia. They were greeted with great enthusiasm and the presentations given both at milongas and as part of tango festivals, had sound repercussions.

Back in South America, the festival “La noche más larga” awaited in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, as well as concerts in the orchestra’s home city, Córdoba, Junín and La pampa. The Romántica also visited Brazil on two occasions, once to participate in the “Congreso de Tango de Curitiba” in September and, the following month, of the “Congreso Brasileño de Tango” in Rio de Janeiro.

The ORM entered the year 2019 with the disco tanda “Besos Brujos” under their arm, as well as a new nomination for the CITA Awards as “Best tango orchestra”. In February they performed at the “Valparatango” festival in Valparaíso, Chile, and a new album was released: Siga el Baile. During the months of may to July Romantica Milonguera set up it’s second European and Asian tour

In August 2019 the orchestra did its 1st USA tour thorughtout the USA giving there almost 20 concerts in that country.

In octubre 2019 the orchestra participated in “Congresso de Tango Brasileiro” at Rio the Janeiro and also brought a concert in Montevideo, Uruguay fro the 3rd time

And so the project lives on, working hard in pursuit of the initial objective, to generate a movement of revitalization, independent though with an identity, which won’t lose the popular essence of the genre.

The Orquesta Romántica Milonguera is conformed by Tomás Régolo on piano, Lucas Furno, Sara Ryan and Luli Christe on violins, Nicolás Tognola, Ayelén Pais and Melina Reyes on bandoneons, Patricio Cotella on contrabass and the voices of Ximena Jimenez and Roberto Minondi.
