DJ Nadim Sawaya

(Melbourne, Australia)

Nadim began his Tango career in 2001, having grown up listening to Tangos on his father’s old
vinyl records. This early introduction to Tango was the foundation for his later interest in delving
into the history and intricacies of the great Tangos.
Following his first visit to Buenos Aires in 2005, Nadim was made aware of the important role DJs
play, and upon returning to Melbourne (having bought many cds!), began to hone his skills by
DJing at local milongas. Along with his first teacher, Nadim started a free CD library service and
encouraged others to take up this role.

Nadim has been invited to conduct DJ workshops in Australia to further encourage the education
and number of active DJs in the scene. Over the years, he has also received invitations to DJ at large
festivals around Australia and Japan, as well as at regular milongas.

At Nadim & Rina's studio, Tango Esencia, they continue to educate on the important role DJs play.
They encourage those who want to take up the art to begin their journey at practicas, and support
them in transitioning to the main Milonga through their musicality and music awareness program.
In addition to his love of dance, Nadim is an avid and lifelong music student, having played the
cello in orchestras and riffing on his guitar on most days.
